What are cockroaches?

Cockroaches are common and invasive pests. They are found successfully living in urban, suburban, and rural environments. Cockroaches have flattened, oval-shaped bodies and six legs that are covered in spines. Their long antennae are usually the same length or longer than their bodies. Cockroaches are nocturnal, hiding during the day and emerging at night to forage for food. German cockroaches are common invaders of both homes and businesses in Pennsylvania. They are a smaller species of cockroach and have two identifying black stripes that run horizontally down behind their heads, and their bodies are light brown to tan in color.

Are cockroaches dangerous?

Cockroaches are most definitely dangerous pests. They contaminate food sources, objects, and the surfaces of homes with the bacteria, human pathogens, and parasites that they carry on their bodies and legs. Before finding their way into your home, they were most likely traveling through excrement, sewers, carrion, and garbage piles. Dysentery, salmonellosis, gastroenteritis, and E. coli can all be spread by cockroaches. Their feces, saliva, and shed skins can also trigger allergic reactions and asthma attacks, especially in the case of children or people with weakened immune systems.

Why do I have a cockroach problem?

Cockroaches become problematic inside homes and businesses, especially commercial kitchens after they have found their way inside while foraging for food or because they have accidentally been introduced through deliveries, in used furniture and used appliances, or in potted plants. Cockroaches regularly move inside through cracks and crevices in a home’s foundation or exterior walls, spaces under doors and around windows, through open windows, in drains and vents, and through spaces around air conditioner units.

Where will I find cockroaches?

German cockroaches like to live and nest indoors in warm, humid, dark, secluded places. Areas behind appliances or underneath cabinets in kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms, and pantry areas are all common places you will find German cockroaches and other species of cockroaches. While German cockroaches prefer living inside, there are many species that like to live outside. Outdoors cockroaches are found living on trees, in mulch, in garden areas, and in sewers or drains.

Customer Review

We recently had a carpenter bee problem and when I reached out, they were able to make an appointment around my schedule. In one application, the bees are gone and we are using our front porch again! While there, they took the initiative to check the rest of the house for any additional problems. Will definitely use again!

They did a termite treatment for us where we had significant activity and damage. They did the treatment last year for us and haven’t seen anything since then. They also referred us to a carpenter that did the repair work which turned out good. We have since started using their quarterly pest service as well.
