What Are Silverfish_

What are Silverfish?

Silverfish have teardrop-shaped bodies and three distinctive bristle-like appendages protruding from the hind-ends of their bodies. They have thread-like antennae that are as long as their bodies. Their brown bodies are covered in silvery-metallic scales, giving them a fish-like, shimmery appearance. These pests have small, compound eyes that are spaced far apart from each other. Silverfish are wingless but can move rapidly using a wriggling, fish-like motion. Young silverfish, or nymphs, are smaller in size than adults but are similar in appearance.

Are silverfish dangerous?

Silverfish are mainly viewed as nuisance pests. They do not pose any significant health risks to people. However, their presence should be eliminated from any home as quickly as possible to prevent food contamination and damage to personal property. Silverfish chew on and damage items such as books, paper, photos, boxes, upholstered furniture, carpets, and wallpaper.

Why do I have a silverfish problem?

Silverfish are moisture-seeking pests and often become problematic inside homes if the weather outside becomes too hot and dry. They find their way inside homes through cracks in basement and exterior walls. Silverfish also have the potential to be accidentally introduced into homes inside boxes, packages, used furniture, or rugs that are brought inside from the outdoors.

Where will I find silverfish?

Inside homes, silverfish create nests in damp areas with cooler temperatures, such as in basements or crawlspaces. Other common nesting spots include cabinets, underneath sinks, or around drains in kitchens, laundry rooms, and bathrooms. Silverfish are nocturnal and remain in their nesting spots during the day, emerging at night to feed. Silverfish living outside nest underneath mulch, landscaping ties, fallen trees, and leaf litter.

Customer Review

We recently had a carpenter bee problem and when I reached out, they were able to make an appointment around my schedule. In one application, the bees are gone and we are using our front porch again! While there, they took the initiative to check the rest of the house for any additional problems. Will definitely use again!

Bryn C

They did a termite treatment for us where we had significant activity and damage. They did the treatment last year for us and haven’t seen anything since then. They also referred us to a carpenter that did the repair work which turned out good. We have since started using their quarterly pest service as well.
