What are spiders?

All spiders have two body parts – a fused head and thorax, and an abdomen. Spiders are arachnids – they all have between six and eight eyes, eight legs, no wings, and no antennae. Spiders do not have chewing mouthparts. Instead, they use digestive enzymes in their saliva to break down their food before eating it. Spiders come in a wide range of colors, color patterns, and sizes. Some are covered in hair and some are not. Spiders are a predatory species that play an important role in the ecosystem by helping to keep populations of nuisance insects under control.

Are spiders dangerous?

Spiders are mainly considered nuisance pests. Most common, house-invading spiders pose no real health threats to people. House spiders are shy, reclusive, and rarely bite people. If you are ever bitten by a common house spider, know that their venom is not strong enough to cause any significant health problems. It is also important to note that some species of spiders living in the United States are considered dangerous. Dangerous spiders possess venom that is strong enough to cause major health risks in people.

Why do I have a spider problem?

Most species of spiders prefer to live outside on properties that offer them plentiful food sources and secluded shelter. They tend to become more of an issue for homeowners in the winter because many insects overwinter indoors. It is also common for spiders to move indoors if the weather outside becomes too hot, dry, or wet for them to live healthily. Spiders feed on a variety of insects and other spiders. Spiders like to hide out and create their webs inside heavy vegetation, piles of debris, and dark, secluded areas.

Where will I find spiders?

Spiders usually nest and hide out in dark, quiet, out-of-the-way places. Outside, they make their webs or burrows in tall grass, inside bushes and shrubs, between rocks, underneath decks and porches, in gardens and woodpiles, under roof eaves, and in the corners of doorways.

Spiders often find their way inside following their food or if the weather outside becomes too harsh for them to live comfortably. Spiders are common invaders of homes, garages, sheds, barns, and other outbuildings. They hide out in dark, quiet areas like basements, closets, attics, crawlspaces, and under furniture.

Customer Review

We recently had a carpenter bee problem and when I reached out, they were able to make an appointment around my schedule. In one application, the bees are gone and we are using our front porch again! While there, they took the initiative to check the rest of the house for any additional problems. Will definitely use again!

They did a termite treatment for us where we had significant activity and damage. They did the treatment last year for us and haven’t seen anything since then. They also referred us to a carpenter that did the repair work which turned out good. We have since started using their quarterly pest service as well.
